Nice Day

Today was a nice day in Los Angeles. We had rains, thunder, wind even snow these days but today was a nice day. I got to plant my flowers finally. Piri and Morzsa enjoyed the sun and the mild warm weather. They rolled on the fresh green grass we have now. They carefully watched me planting and when it came to fertilize they were thinking I am putting it out for them. I don't know what is got to these two girls but they started to eat it! It took half an hour yelling NO, No, No when finally they left the fertilizer alone. It was good that I saw it and washed it in right away. I don't know what they are making the fertilizer of but you have to be careful it sure looks tasty for our Vizslas.

Merry Christmas to all our puppies! Time fly so fast; another year passing and we get older. I hope every one of you are safe and have a loving family. Be carefull at the Christmas tree and do not eat chocolate! It is poison for us 4 legged kids!

I found these two Videos on YouTube I think you will enjoy. They were made by Norcsii and they are the property of http://www.kutyasuli.hu/ which is a training school for dogs in Hungary. It looks like they know what they doing! I will certainly show this to Piri and Morzsa to learn something :) I definitely need some help cleaning up the yard. See that Vizsla Samu how he can pick up the cans? Well I was thinking maybe I can teach them to pick up the leaves. We have so many!! As I read their Mirror Teaching method, the main thing is the good relation ship with your Vizslas, clicker training and good everyday routine, feeding, walking etc.

Time flys so fast....

It was 12 years ago when Huncut's litter was born from Kayla. The pups was all very sweet and promising. They were all look alike as a good litter should be. I decided to keep one of the girls, Piri. All the other went to very good families. One of them was Russell, who choose a male puppy, Scout. Very beautiful male. Both Piri and Scout was very similar looking. Unfortunately Scout lost one of his leg by an accident couple of years ago but he learned to leave with only 3 very well. Yesterday, when I checked my mail a very sad letter I found in my mail box from Russ. Scout passed away at 12 years of age. He leaved a very good life with his owner and two of my other puppies Max and Ginger. He was the favorite of him as Piri for me. Somehow they were special! Now I am looking at my girl, Piri 12 years old. Time pass very fast! I can still see the jumping puppy in her but most of the time she is resting. I hope she can be with us at least another 3-4 years.
We all getting old. How sad, but this is life nothing we can do about it. After loosing Maszat last month I still feel that she is here with us. Just not in body of course but in Spirit. Vizslas are special, they not all dogs you know; they are half human!

What a sad day! I just keep crying, can't believe it! One day she is here the other she is gone. I don't know what happened other than she was not eating and her eyes got bloody. When I took her to the Vet and left her there she had a seizer and she didn't come out of it. It was some poison she picked up from somewhere...but where? Her mother, Piri and sister, Morzsa is doing fine. She was only 7.5 years old. All my Vizslas was living for 14-16 years. It is very hard to write about it, not yet anyway. Maszat is the red collar one in this picture, she was an Angel, sweet and calm all the time!
I hope the Rainbow Bridge Poem is true. I wish to see my dogs again!

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

Christmas with your Vizslas

Christmas is almost here, everybody is so busy with shopping, decorate and cooking. This is one of the happiest time of the year but remember, lot's of things around the beautiful Christmas Tree is dangerous to your Vizslas.

Looking after your pets is not easier at this time either. Did you know that Chocolate is very poisonous to dogs? Poinsettias is a BIG NO NO! Teach your Vizsla to behave around the Christmas Tree. Be careful not to leave chocolates, raisins at the table, counter where dogs can get it. It is very tempting and they can be killed very fast!

I learned this in an other board. I hope you never needed but good to know in the event your Vizsla eat some sharp object: glass, staples etc.

COTTON BALL REMEDY

What do you do if your puppy (or mischievous older dog) gets into your holiday decorations and eats some of the glass ornaments? This potentially lethal mishap can darken even the brightest holiday season.

THE PROCEDURE

BEFORE the holiday go to a pharmacy and buy a box of cotton balls. Be sure that you get COTTON balls...not the cosmetic puffs that are made from man-made fibers. Also, buy a quart of half-and-half coffee cream and put it in the freezer. Should your dog eat glass ornaments.
Defrost the half-and-half and pour some in a bowl. Dip cotton balls into the cream and feed them to your dog. Dogs under 10 lbs should eat 2 balls which you have first torn into smaller pieces. Dogs 10-50 lbs should eat 3-5 balls and larger dogs should eat 5-7. You may feed larger dogs an entire cotton ball at once. Dogs seem to really like these strange treats and eat them readily.
As the cotton works its way through the digestive tract it will find all the glass pieces and wrap itself around them. Even the teeniest shards of glass will be caught and wrapped in the cotton fibers and the cotton will protect the intestines from damage by the glass.
Your dogs stools will be really weird for a few days and you will have to be careful to check for fresh blood or a tarry appearance to the stool.
If either of the latter symptoms appear, you should rush your dog to the vet for a checkup but, in most cases, the dogs will be just fine.
An actual experience: I can personally vouch for the cotton ball treatment. While I was at the vet waiting for him to return from lunch a terrified woman ran in with a litter of puppies who had demolished a wooden crate along with large open staples. The young vet had taken x-rays which did show each of the puppies had swallowed several open staples. He was preparing them for surgery when my wonderful vet came in and said no surgery. I watched him wet several cotton balls, squeeze out the water and pop them down their throats. Within 24 hours every staple was accounted for.
This was a lesson I learned in the mid-1960s and have had to use several times on my brats. I wet the cotton balls and smear on some liverwurst and they bolt it down and ask for more.The cotton always comes out with the object safely embedded. Copyright reserved to Sandy Brock.
